Study Highlights

This quasi-experimental study evaluated a 12-week self-management program based on self-efficacy theory among 73 village health volunteers with metabolic syndrome in Pathum Thani Province, Thailand.

The study found that the 12-week self-management program significantly improved cardiovascular disease prevention behaviors among village health volunteers with metabolic syndrome.

Compared with the control group, participants in the intervention group demonstrated:

  • Higher self-management behavior scores, with an adjusted mean difference of 5.10 points (95% CI, 0.31–9.90; p = .037)
  • Lower body weight by 1.12 kg (95% CI, −1.75 to −0.50; p = .001)
  • Lower BMI by 0.39 kg/m² (95% CI, −0.68 to −0.09; p = .012)
  • Smaller waist circumference by 1.97 cm (95% CI, −3.19 to −0.76; p = .002)

The findings suggest that the program may improve health behaviors and short-term anthropometric outcomes. However, because the study groups were recruited from different hospitals, the observed effects cannot be attributed solely to the intervention.
